Tutorial
- 1Prepare the canvas
Apply a dewy, high-shine primer and sheer foundation to create a luminous, natural skin finish on the left side of the face.
- 2Map the division
Use a fine detail brush and black cream paint to trace a precise vertical dividing line down the exact center of the forehead, nose, lips, chin, and neck.
- 3Apply the black lacquer
Fill in the entire right half of the forehead, eye socket, jaw, and neck with opaque black cream paint, topping it with a clear face gloss for a wet-look shine.
- 4Create the drips and graphic details
Using a thin detail brush and liquid black paint, paint delicate dripping streaks running down the right cheek, and add a sharp white paint stroke over the right brow bone.
- 5Finish the split lips
Apply a sheer, glossy berry tint to the left half of the lips, and paint the right half with crisp, opaque black liquid lipstick topped with high-shine clear gloss.

A non-sticky eye and face gloss is essential to get that wet, lacquered finish over the black paint.
- liquid eyelinerMatte White
Choose a high-pigment liquid liner with a fine brush applicator for the sharp graphic stroke above the brow.
- lip glossSheer Berry
Provides a natural, healthy contrast on the minimal side of the split-lip look.
- highlighterTranslucent White
Use a soft, pale white highlighting powder on the outer temple of the natural side to subtly balance the composition.
Why this look works
This look thrives on extreme contrast, using a stark, high-gloss black void to dramatize the natural symmetry and soft luminescence of the bare skin. The vertical division creates a powerful optical illusion, while the organic, fluid drips break up the hard geometry of the split face. The single white brushstroke acts as a brilliant focal point that prevents the dark side from looking flat.
